Cool roofing products are products applied to the roof of a building in order to keep roof surface cooler under the sun and thus minimize solar heat gain through the roof, especially in the hot season. These products both reflect solar radiation (high solar reflectance) and release absorbed heat (high infrared emittance).
The European Cool Roofs Council (ECRC) is a non-profit European association founded in 2011 to develop scientific knowledge and research in relation to cool roof technology and to promote the use of cool roofing products and materials in Europe. The ECRC has developed a voluntary product rating programme. It makes access easier to relevant input data for the calculation of a building’s energy performance. It contributes to enhancing the compliance of the published data.
